The Poop Story - Week 5

Tomas with his favorite red ball.

This is a picture of Tomas from last week when he was 5 weeks old!  Does he look like a kitten calendar poster boy or what?  We didn't do a Sunday Selfie last week but wanted to tell you the poop story.

Last week Tomas was the first one to eat canned kitten food and he and Teaghan were nibbling on dry food. Which leads to... poop... then leads to using the litter pan!  First a little tootsie sized poop was found in the box.  Mom Colleen and I were waiting to see what happened with the litter and who would cover up their poop!  Tomas and Teaghan delivered... literally... and are covering their poop! Now you would think that this is a natural event but it seems that some cats do not cover up their poop. MOL!  For instance, one of my brothers has a farm in Maine and had some Maine coon mix kittens that were born in one of the barns last year.  The story goes that they apparently never covered their poop!  He had never seen this before but there it was... poop left out in the open.  Why is this, you wonder?  One theory is that some cats (an alpha cat for example) leave their poop for other cats to cover up.  I'm not sure of other reasons, but whatever they are, Tomas and Teaghan knew what to do.

Teaghan has a question...
Teaghan is wondering if other kittens and cats cover their poop?  Do you have a poop story to tell?

  1. Honestly, sometimes Mudpie covers it up, sometimes she doesn't. Guess it depends on if she has something else important to do!

  2. OMC! That face!!

When Ernie first came to live here, he didn't cover his poop either. The mom didn't understand why he wouldn't cover it. So I helped him out and covered it for him. He covers it now. ~Wally

  4. Such cuties and so smart too. I had a cat named Stinky, she got that name for not covering her poop which made it extra Stinky. She went to the Bridge last year, I miss her.

  5. Funny enough, the one cat here who does not cover is Boodie, our most passive family member! My human thinks it is because Boodie is so shy that she just rushes out of the litter box after she does her business because she is so afraid of being caught!

  6. Poppy loves to cover her poop. The cat litter will be flying all over the show. She is used to pooping in the garden where it us necessary to cover your tracks.

  7. Annabelle seems to jump out of the box (after covering her poop) and have a little nugget still attached. With the jump she will deposit her nugget onto the floor and try very hard to cover it up with nonexistent litter! Those kittens are so cute, I bet you can hardly wait until they come home to you!

  8. Can we first tell you just how absolutely adorable you are? Most everyone here covers their poop; though we may miss a spot. Some of us are a bit over zealous. Cooper throws litter everywhere outside the box. Thanks for sharing these cuties with us on the selfies hop. 9. Adorable selfies from the kittens/calendar stars! As to poop, well, I am an outdoor cat so peep doesn't know these things, and being a lady I don't discuss. MOL

You are adorable, little kitty. I don't cover my poop, at least not in the litter, but when I have a chance to do my poops in the garden, I do cover it, so Granny doesn't noticed that I have pooped out there, so this is actually a practical occasion to safe my butt :D Pawkisses for a Happy Tuesday :) <3
